N.S. railway station RAI

A butterfly roof

Station RAI on the southern edge of Amsterdam is a relatively simple railway station, designed to cater for large streams of visitors to the RAI Convention and Exhibition Centre. The station is very transparant, partly of course due to its being positioned on a viaduct. The roof, when seen head-on, is strongly reminiscent of a butterfly. This association is caused by the deep V of the roof halves, which project high over the platforms. The sidewalls are facetted and they are supported on curved castellated beams. Grünbauer beams, you're right!
